Welcome to The Himalayan Research Center

The Himalayan Research Center (HRC) is a Nepal based international research hub, specializing in scientific research on high mountain ecosystems and communities. Our research is focused to develop awareness, as well as innovative solutions to facilitate people adapt with changing scenarios in high altitutde environment due to climate change. As Nepal is one of the most vunerable countries to the effects of climate change, HRC focuses on ways to minimize the impact of climate change on environment andmountain communites. A large number of people, who live directly downstream from the glaciers and lakes in the mountains, feel unsecure and threatened from the possible mountain disasters (Glacier Lake Outburst Flood GLOFs, landslides, etc). Also, the vunerability of mountain biodiversity is at all time high with change in behaviour in the mountain flora and fauna. So, HRC is working to promote the idea of sustainable development, and to increase the engagement of local communities and leaders to counter the causes and to contain and reduce the negative impact of climate change, as it hugely influences the livelihoods of the mountains.

Furthermore, it is necessary to disseminate knowledge of high mountain systems and increase global awareness about the hazards and threats to glacial environments among all stakeholders, as well as international glacial watershed community. HRC is working to protect the ecological diversity of nature, as well as preserve the mountain culture. With changing scenario, it is imperative that the balance between the both is established. HRC is directed, executed and governed by this constitution has been formulated under within the Institution Registration Act, 2034 (1977 AD) ofGovernment of Nepal.
